BRRAG plays an active role in village life, taking shared responsibility with Ndlambe Municipality for key areas such as water and sanitation, safety and security, infrastructure maintenance, the health of our rivers and beaches, and broader social and environmental concerns. ESKOM
Eskom recently installed smart meters which obviate the necessity to have meter readers. Please ask your local neighbour to retrieve the brown box of goodies left (in some) Eskom boxes. We are still to find out what these items are. One message suggested as follows:
“Confusingly, electricity meters like this can be post-paid or prepaid, it depends entirely on the firmware configuration. The sticker and that form indicate it’s set up for postpaid.
Having a CIU for a postpaid meter is maybe a little redundant. but it can give insight into how you use electricity.
With many houses vacant for extended periods, pre-paid meters could be problematic for homeowners.
That CIU should be able to take a battery (often 9V) and should still communicate with the meter using the battery even if the meter has disconnected the property. The regulation used to be 2W consumption for the meter + CIU, so leaving the CIU plugged in should use a lot less than 0.72kWh per month. The 2W limit for the meter + CIU may no longer include the CIU in the calculation, but it’s still a really, really low power device.”

RIVERSEBEND ROAD MARKINGS
After many failed attempts addressed to Ndlambe to paint the lines and speed humps in Riversbend, BRRAG came to the rescue – we look spic and span again.
CONSTRUCTION WORK
We counted at least 27 properties in our villages that are presently undergoing some or other alterations, construction or building work. Good luck to all the renovators and builders – we hope that you will be able to enjoy the improvements by December.

MUNICIPAL REFUSE REMOVAL
Garbage is collected as follows:
Riversbend – Mondays.
Boesmans Old Village – Tuesdays.
River Road – Wednesdays.
WATER RETICULATION
We have commenced submitting a daily water reticulation log to Ndlambe. We note what is reported on the BRRAG WhatsApp group and add it to the log. Please also report when a problem reported by you has been resolved so that we can update the log.
NIGHT WATCH NEWS REPORT
The escalation of copper theft in our area has reached epic proportions. In conjunction with SAPS specialized units and private Security partnerships with Night Watch collaboration, this is going to be tackled with joint operations. All of this is going to take place over the next few weeks. There is so much informational intelligence received in the past week, and this will be acted on a zero tolerance affect with these partnerships. All available technical resources will be utilized to our advantage.
There already have been some arrests been made in Marselle in the past two weeks. The process is a bit slow but very effective. The Ndlambe (old Amatola) plant sea wells were severely damaged with cable theft again. Night Watch and Hi-Tec security coastal with the use of the Eye in the Sky Security managed to apprehend one of the suspects but he was later released due to a technicality.
Night Watch is still reliant on public funding so please support us.

By pure definition of it, it’s a calling to serve your community and give your life to help others in need.
This yet again proved what members of Night Watch are made of when the chips were down and the tables turned on them. The members can be very proud of themselves of what has been achieved so far this year with the massive fires.
The recent fires at Sibuya game reserve, Klipfontein (Harmony Park), Whitney farm and Nature’s Landing including the fires 🔥 in Port Alfred brought many volunteers and professionals from all over to work together as a fire fighting force.
Consistent with this was the awesome and amazing community that we have. There was a call made for the assistance of food, medical supplies, energy drinks, and water. It was this very self-same community that stood together and helped make all this happen for all the teams.
The team is in urgent need of firefighting PPE equipment and two-way radios for communication.
This will be ringfenced through the Bushmans River Mouth Ratepayers Organisation account.
We would also like to thank BRRAG for facilitating the Bushmans Town Hall where all these essential supplies could be dropped off, as well as ringfencing the account for Night Watch.
The members that participated and contributed to the PPE Firefighting fund, we are eternally grateful. This goes a long way to help others.
The symbiotic relationship between Mervan the Ndlambe Fire Chief and all the volunteers was truly amazing and disciplined. NSRI LIifeFirst and their professional handling of communication and keeping head counts and vehicle counts in and out of the firefighting line of defence. This was truly remarkable and disciplined. Fire for Fighting team from Grahamstown were truly remarkable in their professionalism. You guys also rocked it.
As for our partners Boknes & Cannon Rocks CPF / NHW, we know beyond all doubt that you guys are reliable and also great security force to be reckoned with. We, as Night Watch, are very proud to be part of this working partnership. We look forward to many more partnerships with you guys. Your community can be very proud of you.
